Abstract: In order to determine the fungal diversity in soil and water samples taken from different lakes of Hazaribag, Jharkhand, a research was carried out. 20 isolates were isolated from water samples and 23 isolates from soil samples in this experiment. Among the 43 isolates, major 11 isolates were identified using a microbial expert and a standard key. The majority of species from the Aspergillus and Mucor genera predominated among the fungal isolates. Mucor sp., Rhizopus stolonifer, Rhizopus oryzae, Cladophialophora sp., Aspergillus niger, Aspergillus clavatus, Aspergillus sydowii, Aspergillus variabilis, and Aspergillus fumigatus are the soil fungi that were detected. Aspergillus niger, a keratinophilic fungus, was the most prevalent species among those detected in Hazaribag Lake. Mucor sp. and other species were next in line.
