Combined infection of Staphylococcus spp and Escherichia coli in abscess of slaughtered pig

Author(s): Hemanth Ajayan and Arpitha P Nath

Abstract: Animals and humans have experienced significant morbidity and mortality when exposed to pathogenic food-borne bacteria. The purpose of this study was to ascertain the antibiotic susceptibility of the isolates as well as the prevalence of Staphylococcus spp. and Escherichia coli in pigs killed in the meat processing facility of the Mannuthy College of Veterinary and Animal Sciences. From this study we observed Ciprofloxacin, Cefoperazone, Penicillin G, and Clindamycin like antibiotics are resistance to both E. Coli isolates and Staphylococcus spp. That resistant strains of these bacteria found in animal rations may serve as key vehicles for their transmission to humans. The results have epidemiological significance.
